As Easter was arriving, I took a fresh look at the passage in the word of God that mentions Easter: Acts 12. For this fresh look, I cleared my mind of all previous thoughts regarding Easter, and purposed to seek understanding solely from the words of scripture (and of course by prayer and supplication, asking for Almighty God to give me his understanding by way of his inspiration according to Job 32:8 and 2 Timothy 3:16). So, I “threw out” notes and commentaries from my thinking: whether they were from text critics, or from well-meaning KJB believers. If they imposed anything upon the word of God from outside of God’s word, I purged them from my mind so that I would not be influenced contrary to the context of the scriptures. As can be seen in the result thus far of that study, Understanding Easter, we should accept and embrace Easter as a pure word of God (every word of God is pure, Proverbs 30:5, and the KJB is in fact “every word of God” that he has given perfectly to the English speaking world). We should understand that Easter is not a reference to the passover (it can’t be, for the passover had already passed according to the immediate context of Acts 12:3-4). Easter, pure and undefiled, can be understood from the context of scripture alone to be a reference to the days of unleavened bread which follow the passover, or to the resurrection of Jesus Christ, or both (since the resurrection occurred during the days of unleavened bread). We should recognize that Satan corrupts everything that is pure; everything that is of God: and Easter is no exception. While Satan has corrupted Easter with eggs and bunnies and baskets and candy; and Mardi Gras and Ash Wednesday and Lent and Good Friday; we should not abandon the word of God (Easter) on Satan’s account. We should not be afraid to say “happy Easter” – and then to proceed to preach Jesus and the resurrection – the gospel of salvation – to all who will hear.
